A coffee shop with a difference

I’m always on the hunt for something to do with J, that gets us out of the house that is both exciting for him and doesn’t break the bank. If you live in West Yorkshire and fancy a coffee while your children do arts and crafts or even make a bear this unassuming coffee shop with a difference is worth a visit.

Chicoccino is based in Halifax, near north bridge in the row of shops past the broad street plaza. Initially it did take me a second walk past to work out where it was but we found it.

First Impressions.

It is a small coffee shop with shelves on one side stacked with arts and craft options, bears and the accessories and other bits and pieces to buy.  It has a few booth style seating which I can happily say is one of the only times I’ve been able to breastfeed R comfortably sat in, without having to lay her on the table (like I have had to do in other places). It also has some round arts and craft tables for the kids

Drinks and coffee are very well priced with a regular latte for £1. Who can argue with that price ?

The one drawback is the baby changing facilities, there is a changing mat provided but one you have to sit on the floor to change, though I feel this is down to the building limitations as there is no real space for changing unit in the toilets.

Whats for the kids?

While you have a cuppa, there is a lot of arts and crafts for your kids to do from making key rings, jewellery and sewing crafts to painting ceramic moneyboxes , fairy doors and trinket boxes with a load of options in between.  You are also able to let your kids make a bear, where they get to stuff their new pal themselves, J loved that part, as he says that he made Rainbow perfect for cuddles.

These activities are quite modestly priced, the first thing J made was a trinket box which cost £2 for him to paint and decorate with the added bonus of no mess for me to clean up afterwards. Now that is definitely a big tick for me

After spending no more than £5 on J doing crafting and drinks for me and him, I walked away from there with a happy little boy proud of his little box.

Thanks to one of his friends party invite the following week, J was able to have the building a bear experience there as well, which I have to say he enjoyed even more than taking him to BAW and now wants to build one for his sister

He chose his bear, was given the stuffing, and the heart to fill the bear with.  Help was also on hand if the kids needed it.

Once filled, they were given the adoption certificates which they got the opportunity to write out themselves which J is particularly proud of .

The bears prices range from £10 to £11 with the opportunity of buying clothing , sounds and scents for extra.

So if you want somewhere to take the kid for an hour or so, to let them sit and do some arts and crafts while you have a cuppa, that is even maternity pay friendly.   This place is worth a visit

They can be found on Facebook Here

Edit Note – This business has now moved to a bigger location and also has a playgym. Planning to revisit Chicoccino’s and do an updated review
