Ro has a new name and it’s starting to stick

I spent so much time of my pregnancy with Ro trying to come up with the perfect name, scouring  baby name websites and downloading countless name apps to finally decide on a name. Now she is here, her brother has decided he is going to call her  a new name, and it’s starting to stick.

You all know how it is,  you find out your pregnant and the baby name search starts. I did wait until after I got past 13 weeks until I started thinking of baby names, and  the names had to fit the 2 key points I wanted in a name for both my children.

  1. The ability to shorten their name is one of them. This was born out of years of frustration as a teen of my name not really lending itself to be shortened.
  2. Low risk they will have to sustain the ridicule when popular songs and bands had it in the name .This was also because of my time as a teen, when George Micheal brought out Faith  and band called Faith No More were in the charts

I finally settled on a name for Ro, 2 weeks before I was being induced.  I did however do a complete 360 on her name, as it was the first name I wanted, then as I was going through the baby name apps and websites I made a new list of other names and dropped that first name off the list, only to return back to that first name. Luckily it was a unisex name as they couldn’t quite tell me what I was having.

I now know I shouldn’t have worried about point 1, because J has now given her a nickname, completely unrelated to her name.

He has started calling her Ge-Ge ( that’s how I have been told its spelt by J) and she responds to it.  It came from earlier on when J wanted Ro to smile, he would make some baby sounds (Ge-Ge, Go-Go, Ge-Ge) in a rhythmic sound and she loved it, huge smiles and excited movements to match. Then about 2 months ago,  he started calling her Ge-Ge and now even Daddy has started calling her it !

I have now become resigned to the fact she could grow up being known as Ge-Ge,  sorry Ro!  Although it could be worse, a lot worse.
