Yorkshire Afternoon Tea at the Doubletree by Hilton, York

The idea of stopping for a Yorkshire Afternoon Tea at the Doubletree by Hilton, set in the  lovely historic city  of York really appealed.  So in the half term holidays, three of my blogging friends and all our children went to sample the Yorkshire picnic, described as Afternoon Tea for Yorkshire folk.

After arriving in York via the Park and Ride, meeting up in the gardens and letting the kids have a run around, we all made our way to the recently refurbished hotel for Afternoon Tea. It had a real fresh and modern feel as we went in the doors. We were sat in the garden room where it was light, airy and just really had a nice atmosphere.

At the side, through the door was an outside courtyard that would be lovely to sit out with some coffee and cake on a sunny day.

As soon as we got in the door they offered high chairs for the youngest two, and we all got seated. ( Four adults, seven children and a baby!) There was plenty of space to park the 2 buggies without feeling like they were in the way. Once settled they came around for our drinks order where we had a choice of tea or Coffee, and the children were offered juice. My tea came in the iconic large red Yorkshire Tea pot, which held a plentiful amount of tea.

We were then served some beautiful sausage rolls and a selection of sandwiches served on slates. We had smoked salmon and crème fraîche, ham and mustard mayonnaise and Wensleydale cheese and pickle, served on brioche buns.

They also brought out some ham sandwiches and buns for the kids if they preferred.

As we were finishing up the sandwiches and sausage rolls ( which even with the amount of people we didn’t manage to get through all the food.)  They brought out a crate which sat on a little stand ready to serve our cakes.

Inside was a selection of really delicious cakes. Eton Mess with fresh raspberries, scones with chantilly cream, homemade chocolate brownies and homemade carrot cake.

Once we had all finished tucking into the selection of cakes, we were asked if anyone had any nut allergies. No one did so they brought out the children a gooey, warm cookie, which was devoured even after eating their fill.

I really enjoyed the plentiful, delicious food and great atmosphere of the Yorkshire Afternoon Tea at the Doubletree by Hilton. The one last point to add, which to be honest to me was the most important and it can’t be captured in photos. The friendliness of the staff. They were great and also considered the children and interacted with them as well. Their attitude really made the whole experience that extra bit special.

Keep and eye out for what my friends, Suzanne from And Another Ten Things , Nikki from Yorkshire Wonders and Anna from Me, Annie Bee  thought about the Yorkshire Afternoon Tea at the Doubletree by Hilton.

Doubletree by Hilton invited us to review their Yorkshire Picnic, but as ever, all opinions expressed are my own.
